Welcome
Welcome to our website where we hope you will find the information you are looking for. And when you come to Oslo, Norway’s capital city, a warm welcome awaits you at St Edmund’s. The Anglican Church has been ministering to English-speaking people here since the middle of the 19th century. St Edmund’s church building was dedicated in 1883. This ministry has been extended to several other cities in Norway over the past 40 years thanks to the cooperation of the Lutheran Church of Norway who have let us use their property, and since the signing of the Porvoo Agreement in 1996 several of their priests have been given Permission to Officiate at Anglican services by the Archbishop of Canterbury and by our Diocesan Bishop.
The Anglican Chaplaincy in Norway is part of the Church of England and we use their authorised forms of worship but our members come from all over the world and from many different Christian traditions. On an average Sunday there will be worshippers from 20+ countries and from almost as many denominations who have made St Edmund’s their spiritual home whilst they are living in Oslo.
We have a Sung Communion at 11a.m. every Sunday apart from on the first Sunday in the month when we usually have a shorter and more informal family service at which the children lead us for part of it, and occasionally other members too, e.g. in leading worship songs in the style and language of their home nation and Church.
Pick up an ‘Information Pack for Newcomers’ on your first visit and stay for refreshments after the service so that you can meet other members and begin to make some new friends. Our free quarterly magazine OUTPOST carries news of all that is going on in the Chaplaincy.
