When
children are baptized at St. Edmund’s, we, the congregation, make a commitment
to ‘welcome these children and uphold them in their new life in Christ.’ We
take that commitment seriously—it’s why the sacrament of Baptism is always
administered at the main Sunday service, when our regular worshippers are
present as witnesses and can welcome the child into our community.
We
encourage parents to continue to bring their children to church with them,
however young they may be, so they can participate in our community. If you
have babies or toddlers, you’ll find a selection of soft toys, board books, and
drawing supplies at the back of the church. You’ll also find a crèche/play area
in the crypt where children under 3 years are welcome to play during services.
·
Our
Sunday school provides Christian instruction to children from the age of 3, and
is divided into two groups: pre-school (3–5 years), and school age (6–11
years).
·
We
stress community with our youngest members, and offer them a stimulating and
enjoyable time together. We teach primarily in English, but can accommodate
Norwegian-speaking children as well. We also have a lending library of
children’s religious books.
·
St.
Edmund’s holds a family service the first Sunday of each month, to which
families and children often contribute. Sunday School is held on all other
Sundays from September to June, following the regular school year.
·
If
your children attend our Sunday School, you’ll receive regular email updates on
our Sunday School schedule, giving you an overview of lessons and holiday
celebrations.
·
We
always welcome new teachers to join us in our work with children, and we
provide teaching materials and some training. In conformance with the Diocesan
Child Policy, we check the suitability of all volunteers who work with
children.
